Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan known for short as Wat Arun, is an ancient temple built in the Ayutthaya period. It was named Wat Chaeng because King Tak finished the battle and returned with his army in the morning. It is said that it was originally called the Makok Temple and later became the Makok Nok Temple. Because another temple had been built in the same district. But it’s in the Bangkok Yai canal. The villagers called the new temple Wat Makok Nai (Wat Nuan Noradit) and then called Wat Makok Nai, which is at the mouth of the Bangkok Yai Canal, Wat Makok Nok. As for the reason the name was changed to Wat Chaeng, it is believed that when King Thonburi established the capital. In Thonburi in 1767, he arrived in front of this temple at dawn.
